Recent research conducted by Sainsbury's Home Insurance reveals that confusion abounds in the market for home insurance, with 2.94 million people, believing that had to buy their buildings insurance from your mortgage servicer for the mortgage.

These results confirm the dominance that mortgage lenders have in the market for home insurance, with almost half (48%) of all the buildings insurance, saying they bought coverage directly to your mortgage provider. Only 28% of the people with buildings cover purchased from their mortgage provider believes that the lender had offered the best deal. Nearly one in five (18%) believed they were buying with the mortgage lender for your mortgage, 13% are left with your lender, as they have received an instant quote and it was convenient, and 7% can not be bothered to shop around.

The research also highlighted a general apathy when it comes to shopping around for home insurance with 8.55 million people (26% of homeowners with a cover of origin) to the source, neglecting the additional contributions for the purchase of buildings Start and / or contents insurance. Another 16% only the trouble of obtaining an additional contribution, in addition to that provided by your current provider.

Steve Johnson, director of home insurance, Sainsbury's, said "purchasing a home is often an eventful period and for many people may be tempting to just buy the buildings to cover their mortgage provider.
